Report Negative Content
There are multiple reasons why you could be reporting a video that is surfacing on YouTube. It could be because it’s a form of harassment, or maybe it infringes your copyright, or it could be inappropriate content. The reason why can vary across a wide spectrum, and in this article, we’re going to tell you what the report does and what you can report.
What Happens After A Report Is Submitted?
YouTube relies on the community for them to flag something for review if they find that it isn’t appropriate. The report is anonymous, so there will be no form of identity when the report has been submitted.
Once the content has been reported, it does not get taken down instantly, it will get flagged for review, which will be reviewed under two guidelines. Community Guidelines and Age-Restricted content. The determination of this can either lead it to be taken down, left up, or have an age restriction on the video.
Reporting Inappropriate Content
There are many things that you can report, and many options that the report can fall under. You can report the following; Video, Playlist, Thumbnail, Link, Comment, Live Chat Message, Channel and Search Prediction.
Reporting any of these listed above will be reviewed by a 24/7 YouTube Review Team. A video would be reviewed to see if it falls under any of the reporting options that could change the functionality of the video.
When it comes to comments and messages in live chat, users can mark a comment as spam or abuse. What happens then is that it is reviewed by one of the
YouTube community members (reviewers or trusted flaggers.)
If the message is spam or contains an abuse link, the spam content (messages) would be removed.
If the video is found to be against their policy or is subjected to copyright infringement, the video could be removed from YouTube with additional information to the video uploader. Sometimes, the video can also be demonetised due to copyrighted sounds in the background.
If there are no violations that are found within the video, title and description, no matter how many reports will be submitted, the video would not be taken down due to its non-violation of the guidelines. In some circumstances, it can be re-reviewed.
To report any of these listings, simply click the 3 dots on the side of the thing you want to report, (somethings like playlists & search predictions will be somewhere on the page) click report, and then select what you feel the video violates. Select further details by choosing an option in the dropdown box and then click next. This would then be sent to the YouTube Review Team.
YouTube’s Trusted Flagger Program
The YouTube Trusted Flagger Program was developed to aid individuals, government agencies, and NGO’s (Non-Government Organisation). The program includes; a bulk flagging tool, allowing for multiple videos to be reported at one time, visibility into a decision on flagging, prioritized flag reviews, continuous discussion and feedback across YouTube’s wide variety of content and occasional online training content (for NGOs only).
Steps On Becoming a Trusted Flagger
If you want to become a YouTube Trusted Flagger, the first step into joining the program is to flag potential content that violates the YouTube guidelines for review. You must be signed in to YouTube when doing so.
For Individual Users:
Users who have flagged a large volume of videos with a high rate of accuracy would be invited to join the Trusted Flagger program.
For Government Agencies and NGOs:
If you represent one of these and you want to become part of the Trusted Flagger program, reach out to your ‘local point of contact’ at Google or YouTube. Certain organisations or countries can be subjected to further review. Government Agencies and NGOs must attend training to learn about the guidelines and processes.
Requirements After Joining:
Trusted Flagger participants must commit to frequently flagging YouTube videos or content through a reporting tool that could be a possible violation of YouTube’s guidelines and open to ongoing discussions and feedback on various content type areas. YouTube has a right to revoke any participant who has not had a significant impact. Contact information must be provided and all participants are subjected to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA.)

The problem with having a huge video production based platform is that there will be people blatantly breaking people’s copyrighted material. There are multiple reasons why a piece of content can be ‘striked’ / claimed, and why anyone can write a claim.
When making a claim you are writing a legal document that if you are caught lying, you can be taken to court for falsely copyrighting material.
The copyright form requires a lot of details about you and the video in question. You can see the requirements / structure of the claim here. The content could include material that has been directly reuploaded without transformation or it could have pushed the boundaries of fair use.
